Yes it's a hard old time out there for advertising...and TVNZ is feeling the weight of it. The State Broadcaster is having to lay off staff and import more cheap over seas content.
(Approximately 90% of TVNZ's revenue comes from commercial activity and it costs a whopping $100,000 dollars to produce an hour of locally made TV vs. $5000 for imported content.)
Do the math...

is NZNTM 'local' content? gsus. Local adaptations of American imports are no better.
Outrageou Fortune is made by South Pacific Pictures for TV3, not TVNZ. They've just finished shooting the latest season, and are all set to go with another one, so we can relax.
Also, Outrageous Fortune is broadcast on a Canadian owned station. If you can point out something on TVNZ that is worth watching (or, more to the point, worth missing when it's gone)then maybe I'll cry over their budget cuts. Besides, I thought they were just cutting back on the parties and expense accounts, and the news departments. The biggest concern is surely all their Freeview stuff
Sadly most of the stuff we make is crap anyway. Our film is another thing, but the television content is pretty crap. Shorties has a place mind you.
The people who are really suffering from the budget cuts are those who do the work, and work their arses off. Oh, and those who use the Koru Lounge
In addition, the cuts are being made as a direct result of the demands of shareholders on the SOE. TVNZ was operating very nicely, and at a profit, until the drop off in advertising due to Recession things.
I think what's really worrying is that TVNZ was beginning to take an interest in programmes that appealed to certain individualistic sections of society rather than their usual "lowest common denominator" approach when choosing programming. Good thing the digital channels aren't effected by this... The Gravy is an amazing show.
Incidentally, neither NZNTM nor Outrageous Fortune have anything to do with TVNZ, they're both made for TV3.
