FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY

So RAFW is going down over in Sydney at the moment, and true to NSW form, there's lots of pretty colours, sexy dresses and glam sequins slash metallics. There is undoubtedly a couple of designers showing that do AMAZING things (read: ROMANCE WAS BORN - they created an underwater kingdom and had an Octopus hat - OMG, Octopi are my favourite animals), but overall I'm not that super stoked on what's been hitting those boring, off-white runways, which, in turn, has reminded me to blog about designers that I DO get super excited about.

Luella Bartley is an English fashion and music journalist turned designer, who, with a particular affinity towards the royals and equestrian pursuits whilst also having grown up in the '80's, has a continual thematic dichotomy which means her collections are always ideas based, always classic, but always super modern and bright and funny at the same time.

Her Spring/Summer 2009 collection was no different. Head to toe, oranges, lilacs and pinks paraded down a runway ensconced in vines, and accessories were of the Princess Diana, hats-and-gloves-and-netting-variety. Brilliant. You can check her previous collections (there is a particularly admirable Salem Witch based collection) HERE, and there is a really nice article and shoot with her in the latest edition of Lula Magazine.
