The googlization of everything

Perhaps contradictory to the last post, I'm putting it out there: The age of 'tangible texts' is certainly up in question. What with online journals, videos, novels, forums, emails, photo albums, diaries ( read: blog entries) the list goes on and on... you get my drift?

So when you die, what will become if this 'intangible' YOU?

I stumbled across this site yesterday http://googlization.com/ and I think it's hilarious for making comment on this cultural shift...

Because if you can't be googled - do you really even exist?

I dunno, there's a certain calmness and detachment to be found in engaging with paper and print; if I'm reading a blog, I'm listening to iTunes, on Facebook, checking my email, and checking other websites. If I sit down with a book or the newspaper, I can, if not completely, focus on what is there. Even though I check Stuff everyday, and read all the articles that I find interesting, I still like to go and read the newspaper in my lunch break occasionally, and enjoy all the little things I tend to ignore on the web; it's a slow, time-consuming process, and for a small part of the day, I don't feel rushed. Maybe I'm just an anachronism, but I think it's something people will still seek out in our lifetimes

I think your right! As the web becomes the focus of more and more peoples lives, i think a return to 'tangible' media will be sought after.

I think it's interesting you refer to the 'slowness' of this media - and how you savour this experience.

There's this movement, i think it's called the politics of being 'slow,' that focuses on old practices etc...acknowledging how fast paced our life styles have become, and how unsustainable this has become.

Interesting stuff. Still - the googlization of everything is still is pretty compelling proposition.

It's scrazy stuff!

I found this article interesting: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/08/03/090803fa_fact_baker

Also, last night I shut off my computer and read in bed. The experience was exactly as Hamish describes it: calm and detached. There is no bright screen blaring, no checking back forth back forth between sites/articles/email. It was just me and the page. Lovely.

Why didn't my link fully show up? Lame. The internet is clearly punishing me for my dissent.
