NEONSLEEP

A wee interview with the brains behind NEONSLEEP! Welfe Bowyer has in many ways been responsible for creating a new kind culture. It's one that dares to stay up all night, isn't scared to let loose, lives for adventure and is increasingly global in scope! As Welfe explains NS is much more than a home for 'party photo', it's an original and innovative NEW kind of space. A hub for high fashion, street culture, jewellery and much much more...

You've changed the format of NeonSleep drastically, what's the concept behind the new site?
The new site is designed to act like a cultural hub, allowing fans to easily navigate all the aspects of NS. All sections are equal, whether your into the photos or stree
t fashion or art.

How do you see the site evolving?
Treating each section as equal, allows each to also grow and shrink as needed. The new fashion sections, Sidewalk and Look are starting to gain momentum, with various NZ labels seeing the potential and getting on board. It would be great to have Auckland street fashion on there too. So any budding fashion photographers out there!?

What is about NZ culture that inspires you? What would you like to see more of?
NZ'ers are so do 'DIY'. Its an old cliche, but the reality of it is that NZ gives you a very good chance to do what you want. And you might just find your one of the only people doing it! There's less competition, which gives you more attention. This is good and bad, as designers are often pushed further amongst competition. So I would like to see more competition for sure.

Less?
Less P would be nice. People should just chill out with a nice cup of Peppermint tea.
And where would you like to see NeonSleep five years on from now?
In 5 years, I would like to expand the brand to include photographers from other cities around the globe. That's been the idea from the start. We've been mixing in photos from Berlin for 2 years now, and would be great to see some other cities (on one site) too! But yeah, just generally focus more globally, which hopefully just strengthens NZs position next to work from around the world.

You can check out NEONSLEEP HERE ( and don't forget to navigate all the features!)
Cheers Welfe! x

Bed time stories

So much of my youth was spend with gf's gossiping. It began with revealing our crushes in primary, our 'new' discoveries in high school and our oddities at University.
From innocence and ignorance i grew... until it seems I've heard everything and nothing is new. Until today.... Enter: a gf who took a boy home over Easter who possessed the asset below.

Buddy Three is a crowd. WTF.

'So what's it all about then? IT'S A RAVE DAVE'

When we drink at our house my flatmate Abby likes to show us YouTube video's that remind her of London. We don't mind. It makes us feel rather exotic...

Last night she was on a role and I realised she must have been there during the height of 'neon rave'...and lovin it!

Although the phase has surely passed ( yes we are all into monotones and shades of grey...) this clip reminded me why bright leggings and fluro dresses were such a craze and swept the world. Oh come on.....I know you like it too.

Kicking My Bootay

'ello guys,

Check out the party times on at Good Luck every Wednesday, hosted by Kev Fresh. Here's what the man himself has to say:

"Ok, so the kind folk at Fluro Mag have asked me to write a blurb about a wee shindig that happens every Wednesday night at Good Luck. Some of you may have been down already and got a little funky on the D-floor and enjoyed a $5 CC and dry or four, if you have, thanks!!

Kicking My Bootay is a gig for people that wana party! We say, Fuck musical genres and fuck Courtney place. lets celebrate our love of booze and mid-week drinking and do it in style.

Myself (Kev Fresh), Lucien and Buff Marvin (Tom hates it when I use that as his DJ name but I think its pretty much amazing), have been having a seriously good time over the last few months and would like to invite anyone that hasn’t made it down on Wednesday to make it apart of your weekly schedule. We aim to make Kicking My Bootay the freshest party in Wellington and it seems to be working!

Just like to say thanks to Canadian Club Whiskey, Boom Box Gallery, Rags To Riches Clothing, Fluro, Good Luck and Rod at Epic Café for all being good cunts."

- Kev

SO HO MO YO!

SOHOMO – Wellington Special
20th of June - San Francisco Bath House

With residents… A.D.A.M, Oscar Nutt, and Babes!Babes!Babes!

And Local Support from…
Bands: 'Heat Like Me' and 'Little Pictures.'
Plus 'Mega Pash Action Dancers.'

About Sohomo

Sohomo's a ground breaking phenomenon that has fast becoming
Auckland's kewlest and fastest growing gig. Combining a queer friendly
crowd with indie-electro music the gig has been redefining social
binaries. And after a series of sold out band nights the event comes
to pay homage to wellington.

Oliver Hall, Sunday Star times (About town)…
"Sohomo feels like a particularly cool grey lynn house party that
you've been lucky enough to gate crash."

Information on the headlining acts

A.D.A.M (AKL)

Adam's a kingpin in the Auckland music scene. In the past three
months, he's packed out Sohomo crowds, and played along side DJs Greg
Churchill, Antix (fiord), Andrew Tidball, Angela Fisken, and Cyril
Orson. He's also
played supporting sets for bands… 'The Shocking Pinks,' 'Collapsing
Cities,' 'Charlie ash,' 'Bang!Bang!Eche' and 'Chk Chk Chk (!!!).'

Little Pictures (WGTN)

This will be there final New Zealand show before their Australian tour…
"Little Pictures are Johanna Freeman and Mark Turner. They live in
Wellington together where they play electronic pop music and hang out
on the internet. Some people call them cute, but they're actually bad
to the bone! Having been recently signed to Lil' Chief Records, the
next few months will see Little Pictures release their debut album
"Owl + Owl", which they will be touring throughout New Zealand and
Australia."

Heat like Me (WGTN)

"At just one year old, Heat Like Me have received an overwhelmingly
positive response from the local and international music community. In
April 2008, the group opened sales of their debut EP, titled "You Want
It." The EP captures the warmth and spontaneity of the band's live
performance, combining electronic drums and analogue synthesisers with
pop vocals."
