Thought shall not die

I came across this picture yesterday and it made me smile. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm obsessed with flowers. From my perfume ( 'Daisy' by Marc Jacobs' or 'FlowerBomb' Viktor and Rolf) to a giant collage on my wall, duvet cover, myriad dresses and even a range of earrings, it's fair to say - this is a fully fledged obsession! And it is one that I developed at a very young age. When no one was around to play, or the adults were busy talking, I would go out to the garden to pick lavender and roses - to squash. Pressing flowers is a rather old past time, ( that my dear neighbour taught me) , but I believe it's one in need of a comeback!

I used to just stick them in books found lying around the house, wait till I remembered ( or my mother found them) and then stick them on my wall. I have since been introduced to a more comprehensive 'how to'. You can follow it HERE. Dreamy!

Wear what I want, do want I want, eat what I want?

I always thought that when I was rich and famous life would be sooo much easier. I could do what I want, wear what I want..and of course I could eat what I want. But it seems life ain't so easy for those 'on top.' Not even a song and dance will get poor Pharrell served....

Beware of the Zombie's this weekend..

Oh Lordy. So this Friday our ram-shamble team will gather to devise a plan of action for the 48 hours we have....to produce a film! Yes last minute we have submitted (and devised a team) who hopefully have what it takes to be, New Zealands Next Top...Film Wankers?I really do hope so. I've done this once before, but with an advertising team who provided food ( let me sleep) and even gave me a whole new wardrobe. This time we will be 'creating' on absolute peanuts, but like the tag line insists ' creativity costs nothing.' Thank goodness!!
Luckily I hit up a burger joint today who is going to hook is up ( phew)...and hopefully, we will be able to beat ( or realistically compete) with the 100's of teams who will also be taking to the streets.
The finalists will be screened 27th May at Embassy Theatre. If you're keen to get a seat, buy a ticket fast as they always sell out and are well worth it. Watch out NZ - the nation is going to be littered with sleepy zombie's!!!
Now who knows how to work while they sleep?

Self Aware Scenesters? Rap Music? Crack?

Yikes!

'Is it ironic or are they serious?' 'Is it sugar, or are they handing out crack?' 'Who's Big Dwayne?' 'Did they really just say - i like cheese when it comes from a goat!?' 'What is a CrackHouse?' 'Who has rap authority?' 'What's a Tommy Ill?'

Yes Wellington is a buzz with confusion, and the answer is...well no body knows.
Tonight at Mighty.

Thank goodness for the weekend!

I know it's been a shorter week what with Easter and all that, but seriously, thank goodness it's Friday! Maybe it's because i gave myself a cold from partying too much last week, maybe it's because I'm in need of an excuse to drink or maybe it's because.....it's winter and I'm bored/cold/hibernating already...
Anyway come to SO HOMO tonight! It will be fun/crazy/good times. YES!

Must See DVD

This isn't so much a 'must see' as it is a disturbing, yet compelling part of NZ's movie history.
Perfect Strangers stars Sam Neill who plays an obsessed lover- and 'rugged' man of the wild.

After a night at the pub he picks up local fush and chup shop girl Melanie (Rachel Blake) who he takes back to his Palace ( a hut on an island.) In a plot that gets stranger and stranger he holds her captive in the hope of eternal love and marriage.

The tag line for the film is ' a chilling romance' but in my opinion the characters are far more disturbed than they are romantic.
The film is certainly complex, unnerving and at times deeply haunting, yet it also possesses a rather beautiful and poetic quality ( It's set in NZ after all)

Perfect Strangers has screened at numerous international film festivals, including the London Film Festival, the Montreal World Film Festival, and the Chicago International Film Festival and in June 2005, it won the Best Film Award at The Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto.

Put Simply : Go get nostalgic and rent this DVD !

Recession spending tips (not just for Lulubelle)

It's going to take a lot of your pennies to save up for a plane ticket to visit Portland, Oregon. But it's worth it... Portland's fabulous, you can even get decent coffee here.

Oh yeah but there's a recession. Well Lulubelle I know you have craft skills - just look at that beautiful Diorama! so here is...

Recession spending tip #1 ETSY:

The best online store ever, it's sustainable, it's local (filter the stores to ones in your area), it's fostering creativity and small business.... and it's saving you money.

There's three potentials here - The first is obvious; buy your little sister some funky handmade earrings for her birthday, get some great vintage shoes. Buy.

The second is a little more complex; you're out of cash but you have hidden talents with crotchet needles? whip up some watermelon coasters during lectures and sell them for $10. I don't know how much a custom built Diorama of Plan B goes for these days but maybe considerably more than a fiver. Sell.

The third is a little more cheeky but hey good artists copy, great artists steal. Pablo Picasso said so. There are hundreds of crafty people out there making stuff and putting it online, why not grab some ideas and make yourself something nice? The difference here (and it's important to point this out) is that when you steal something, you make it your own. Think big... think chandelier not desk lamp... look at you, you're artsy, your hip for small change.

(p.s. these rad desk lamps are made in Portland, Oregon)
